Scam Alert

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has received multiple reports regarding a scam. Anyone who receives a suspicious phone call where the caller advises the recipient they have missed jury selection/service and demands a payment via Green Dot Card is asked to note the time and date of the call, the phone number, and the name of the person calling. DO NOT send money, provide pre-paid credit card or personal information to the caller. Contact the Wayne County Communications Department non emergency number at (912) 427-5992.

We also suggest that you file a complaint with the FBI. IC3 complaints filed via this website: are forwarded to the appropriate agency for possible investigation. You might also consider contacting CrimeStoppers USA at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Security Checks

Sheriff John Carter announces that the Sheriff's Office will be offering free security checks for all local businesses and churches as well as civic organizations. The Sheriff's Office will also provide training on Active Shooter, De-escalationTechniques and First Aid for interested business management / staff , church staff and congregations, civic organizations and their members. Firearms Familarization Training for Ladies

Sheriff John Carter announces that the Sheriff's Office will be offering Firearms Familarization Training for Ladies that are residents of Wayne County, Georgia. Interested applicants must be 21 years of age and legally own/possess a handgun. This will be an 8 hour course of instruction. Wayne County residents interested in applying for this course should contact Lt. Ben Robertson at (912) 427-5970 extension 1320 for applicant requirements and application packet. You may also download the application from the webiste under documents. The first set of classes are April 12th, 19th, 24th and 26th at 5:30pm at the Firing Range. You must attend all four classes to complete the course.
